Here comes another hurricane! One of the advantages of living in Ohio is that we rarely must worry about hurricanes (just other things, like drought). I have family living in central Florida, as I am sure many of you have friends and family in locations where hurricanes are a threat. I worry for my family, and they are so used to this that they don’t seem to be concerned. Of course, our inland North Carolina and Tennessee families didn’t think they needed to worry about hurricanes either. Let us be in prayer for all who are in the path of storms, and let’s be in prayer for those who are suffering crop loss as well.
I wanted to share with you some updates about the Montreat Conference Center. Many of us know about and have been to Montreat. Here is a letter from their president. https://myemail.constantcontact.com/Montreat-Status-Update—10-03-2024.html?soid=1127071427492&aid=_g9p8NmqiW4
Reminder that I challenged all our churches last week to create clean up buckets for PCUSA’s distribution through Church World Service. If you and your congregation put together clean up buckets, bring them to the presbytery meeting in November, and we will get them delivered to be ready for the next event that calls for them. So far, I heard of one congregation that is attempting to do between 15-30 buckets! WOW! We will announce at the presbytery meeting which church(es) brought in the most!!!
Do not forget to let your community know that you are taking on the task of preparing clean up buckets! This is a clever way to involve non-attenders in working with the congregation, getting to know one another, and perhaps gaining a new member down the road!
In Christ’s service,
The Rev. Kathy Nice, Executive Presbyter, Presbytery of Scioto Valley
