How to Stop Breaking the Bible and Damaging People Workshop.

October 24, 2024 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

How to Stop Breaking the Bible and Damaging People. October 24, 2024, at the Presbytery office, in the Parlor of Overbook Presbyterian Church, 9 a.m. Gather, 10-noon Program.

How is it that we have allowed the Living Word to become a site of hateful contention and death-dealing proclamations? Some Christians wonder if we should keep reading our sacred scriptures while others use these words to wound children of God. Rev. Katie Kinnison uses her experiences of decades of teaching & preaching the Bible, graduate work in how reading transforms us, relationships with communities who courageously face their trauma, and her own walk with the Living God to open up what it can mean for us to study the scriptures. This “honey in the honeycomb” can indeed help us come all the way alive in God and bless the world. We need to learn to read again. We need to read in community and to let love be our aim as we live out what we come to understand from our engagement with the Spirit alive in our scriptures.
