Are you looking for faithful ways to be engaged in advocacy in your community? Would you benefit from gathering with other Presbyterians to support one another and reflect on next steps that we can take as followers of Jesus? Join us “For Such a Time As This – Engaging in Advocacy in your Home, Church, and Presbytery” on Tuesday, May 20, from 2:00 – 3:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church, Circleville. The Presbytery meeting follows at 3:30 pm. but you do not need to stay for that if you are not a commissioner. Contact the presbytery office for more information – no sign up needed.
At this meeting we will debut a timer for speeches made during debate. By rule, speakers have always been limited to three minutes during debate, but that rule has been loosely enforced over the years. At the May 20 meeting next week, the moderator will more closely adhere to this point of the PSV Standing Rules for Hybrid Meetings. Please plan your comments accordingly. As per rule, during debate, each speaker has three minutes to address the issue to which they are speaking. Time will be kept with a timer on the Zoom Screen visible in the meeting space and online. The timer will be green when the speaker’s time starts and will turn yellow when the speaker has 1:12 (40% of their allotted time) remaining and red when the speaker has 45 seconds (25% of their allotted time) remaining. The moderator will announce when the speaker’s time is complete, though speakers should wrap up their comments within the time allotted. The timer will also play music to indicate time is up. The stated clerk will ordinarily operate the timer though this duty can be shared by the moderator and/or journal clerk if necessary.
