(A certification to lead SoulShop’s faith-based suicide prevention workshops)
Mon, June 22 – Fri, June 26, 2026. Second Presbyterian Church (Portsmouth, OH) 801 Waller St, Portsmouth, OH 45662
27 When the jailer woke up and saw the prison doors wide open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, since he supposed that the prisoners had escaped. 28 But Paul shouted in a loud voice, “Do not harm yourself, for we are all here.” (Acts 16:27-28)
When we read the story of the earthquake that miraculously releases Paul and Silas, we probably miss or skip over the verses about the jailer about to complete suicide because of his fear that the prisoners had escaped. But they hadn’t – they stayed with him. And it saved his life.
“Do not harm yourself, for we are all here.” This is what the SoulShop train-the-trainer event is all about: you learn to teach others how to stay present with those overwhelmed by fear and desperation.
After completing this event, you will be able to lead faith-based suicide prevention training for members of your community and the wider community. You don’t have to be a pastor or a therapist – simply a person with a heart for people, mental health, and well-being.
This year, the state of Ohio is sponsoring 5 “train the trainer” events: Portsmouth, Toledo, Dayton, Columbus, and Akron. Trainees are only responsible for their transportation. (This is only for congregations in OH.)
